Antimicrobial and sanitization treatment is the step where surfaces affected by water damage get treated with a solution designed to kill bacteria, mold spores, and other contaminants before they have a chance to establish and spread. It's applied after materials have been dried, as the last line of defense against regrowth.
Homeowners in Pittsburgh, PA need this after any water event where materials stayed wet for more than a day or two, or where the water source itself was contaminated – think sewage backups, appliance overflows that sat for a while, or flooding that brought outside water into the home.
We apply an EPA-registered antimicrobial solution to affected surfaces – framing, subfloors, drywall that's being kept rather than replaced – after moisture levels have come back down to normal range. This isn't a substitute for drying; it's a treatment layered on top of a properly dried structure.
Cost depends on the square footage being treated and the type of water involved, since contaminated water requires a more thorough sanitization process than a clean water leak.
Keep in mind, this treatment only works as intended once materials are actually dry. Applying it to still-wet surfaces just delays the problem instead of solving it, which is why it's always done as a final step, not a first one.
